crossesandguns: cain with a syringe full of poison (Default)

Second post of the day. Been free for a week now and I'm immensely BORED!

I read somewhere that the things you do most of the time should be the work you do the rest of your life. Or something like that. In an ideal world, then, I'd be a professional coffee-drinking komiks editor. Or a professional fangirl. Yeah.

I picked up Trese: Last Seen After Midnight and Elmer last week! Yay!

Trese is awesome, as usual. The stories Budjette dish out are both familiar and unfamiliar - like the little-known side, the dark side behind the usual, that angle we never look at because we're afraid of what we might see. Fight of the Year, the last story, is just amazing - it's set outside Manila and it opens up a lot of possibilities, like what if Trese's not the only one of her kind. Can I say I love it? KaJo's art is impressive, and I think he upped the ante from last. My only nitpick is the letters seem too small. And I wish there was some kind of underlying story again, like the last two volumes.

I love Trese with all my heart, but Elmer just takes my soul. It's- I don't know, it can be life-changing. I mean, I had difficulty finishing a chicken burger afterwards. Heck, I might not be eating chicken in the near future. Gerry Alanguilan's tale of sentient chickens touches on race, discrimination, the heart of darkness in every man, innate goodness, and even redemption. The art is second to none too.

I wonder, is that a Trese: Absolute Edition there? Plus Andong Arre! (Actually, there's an El Indio and Darna Omnibus at the top shelf too!) What I'd give for a shelf like that!

This last week I have also managed to check these off my graphic novel to-read list: Marvels, 300, Road to Perdition, Joker (Azzarello) and American Vampire (STEPHEN KING FF). Currently watching: Doctor Who S2 (Slowly, slowly), Downton Abbey S2 and Walking Dead S2.

Sorry for the off-topic comment -- di kasi ako sure kung nag-send nga ba yung PM ko o hindi. Okay lang ba kung i-unfriend kita sa LJ? Since DW friend naman kita. I just want to avoid the double-posts.

GOD I LOVED ELMER SO MUCH AHH I wish it'd been longer, I love how he touched on the huge (bloody) events that shaped the beginning of the human+sentient!chicken relationship, but I wish we could've seen more of their daily interactions? I mean, the office discrimination thing was heartbreaking and awesome, but I also would have loved to know more about smaller things. Like, what allowances did they have to make to school curricula to allow chickens to enroll? Since there are apparently chickens who are religious, were there concessions made in their chosen religions to accommodate them? Are there chicken-friendly modes of transportation? etc.
(and Idk if I'm reading too much into it, but the human+sentient!chicken thing sort of paralleled heterosexism+queer identities to me?)

I didn't notice those shoutouts omg UGH HOW IS THIS GRAPHIC NOVEL SO PERFECT

I liked how Trese sort of returned to the monster-of-the-week format it had in volume one, but I also miss the overarching plot.:( Maybe they have something planned? There were more hints of Alexandra Trese's feelings toward her father's death/something in her past, so maybe we're going to see more of that soon? (ALSO: if we're introduced to more people in her line of work I will DIE. I want to write a Supernatural/Trese crossover because the whole paranormal problems thing is so similar, augh. Does Trese fanfiction exist?)

Huhuhu Lui, IKR! The ending felt a bit rushed to me, like it jumped over a lot of details, but since it's mostly an origin story, I kinda get it. AND YESS to the daily interactions! Like how in the bus, when the lady almost crushed Jake and stuff. Do chickens get to be drivers? Are there cars for chickens? I love the details, the posters of chicken-free dishes in restaurants etc etc (and they were eating ducks, that's like man eating monkeys or something). I'm more interested on the human/chicken love story because OHMAN IT JUST BREAKS ALL LAWS OF NATURE HURR It's inter-species, so no chance of viable offspring, but LOVE BREAKS THE RULES OHOHO (in that case it might be a parallelism of hetero/homosexuality, idk I'm a bit traumatized on inter-species sex because of Wicked omgg) It's like a whole world waiting to be exploreddd

You know, I might be reading too much here too, but in the Bangungot story, when the doctor says "you seem to know much, is this experience?", I was like TRESE DID YOU GET YOUR HEART BROKEN TOO? But then again it might just be her father's death idk :( I just love the Pacquiao story so much because he does it for his cityyyy and I'm a sucker for hero types. And then he tells Trese to "back off and let me defend my city my own way, it's what I do best" I think I cried a little ;A;;; (I HOPE there are other people in her line of work. I was wondering why the government doesn't have it's own paranormal dept ala SHIELD haha)

(OMG you should do that crossover! It'll be EPICC! Although how they'll meet, idk... And and and the Kambal! With the Winchester boys!!! I don't think I can take much anymore hahaha. I haven't found any Trese fanfiction anywhere, though. Holy crap if there was a high school AU plus a Kambal-Trese triangle I will smack a bitch D:<)

And also we've got to give Gerry Alanguilan props for writing and illustrating on his own!! (HAHAHA OH GOD HOW... DO YOU DO THAT. How did he find the energy. And his linework has so many details omggg just thinking about doing something like this makes me want to cry ;_;)
I KNOWWW AHHHH LOVE STORIIIES <33 I really want to know when the attitude towards relationships shifted? Idk if it's just me but thirty years seems too fast lol, especially considering the difference in species. Maybe there was this huge, Romeo and Juliet-esque love story between a famous person and a chicken that helped with the opinion change? SO MANY QUESTIONNNS HAHAHAHA omg I want to know more ;_;
(OH GOD WICKED. That scene in that brothel with the tiger and bkdkbowdkfg scarred forever aughhh :(()

FLDKGS YESS THAT PART. At first I thought maybe she did have someone she loved, but I don't know, it seems so out-of-character for her to be so deeply affected by romance? She's so pragmatic and closed-off, I don't know if I can see that happening! (Then again, baka the reason why she's so closed-off is because of romantic heartbreak lololol) But I'm also not sure if it's wholly to do with her father fkdlfs arghhh I want the next volume na huhuhu.
(I was thinking about that too omgggkfdhbkdfh maybe they call the Philippine League of Superheroes or something HAHAHA)

(I WANT TO, SO MUCH OMG. Imagine, a worldwide network of hunters!! And Sam and Dean would find the matter-of-factness with which Filipinos treat the paranormal so strange, haha! I know someone who wrote a short piece about Castiel and Trese discussing the apocalypse, and I cried and I died ahhh ;_; SO MUCH TO WORK WITH HUHUHU. I wish Trese had a bigger fandom, there's so much material to work wiiiiith! Also also I love the relationship between Trese and the Kambal gkdfkd they protect her and she takes care of them in a different, but just as important, way, ahhh, all my feeliiiings.) (P.S. I'm trying to write a Hetalia+Trese crossover in which Juan investigates some manananggal deaths and Trese investigates Juan but I'm stuck currently lololol. CROSSOVER ALL THE THINGS.)

omg sorry for so many words I just have a lot of feelings gkdkfkf

YES! I wonder just how long he made this stuff- it's a labor of love! I remember Road to Perdition took Richard Piers Rayner almost 4 years to finish, 4 YEARS OMG how he sustained the energy I'll never know (and wow the writer waited a looong time haha)
R&J! Hahaha that might work! Francis' movies seem to be human/chicken too, btw. Although I doubt the CBCP has stopped being offended by things like that by then. New religions probably sprouted up too. ALSO I just realized that there'd be no KFC, or Max's Chicken, or Mang Inasal! They'll all go bankrupt! (Aw man, considering that tiger's stuff have spines and all, hrrrrrrgh)

Well if Trese was around 21(?) after the balete tree and around 30 presently, there's plenty of time for her to fall in love and break her heart! Although it may have happened at the balete itself. It's still a big mystery! I wonder if the Kambal knows anything about it and what they think of it too :DD I sorta-kinda shipped her with Maliksi back Vol 1 until I realized he might be a bit young for her hahaa
(I'd love a crossover with the Filipino Heroes League! For me they're all in the same universe haha)

(A worldwide network hnnnnnghhh it's like those Vatican priests vs vampires stories, only better! Trese would kick their asses. Yeah. She's got awesome dragon's blood in her. Oh man, I can see the boys interviewing old men (or whole villages) who may or may not know more about supernaturals than they do! Plus, Dean and a bottle of San Miguel! And then what if anybody who consumes San Miguel beer gains Michael powers, because he's secretly locked up somewhere- oh wait I'm confusing Lucifer with Supernatural hahaha crap SO MANY POSSIBILITIES
A-and a Castiel and Trese story?! I wonder if Trese's ever met angels before? She's met demons yeah (Sy Tan hahaha did he have to be a Chinese businessman). I'm real interested on the concept of engkanto hitmen - what would they need hitmen for? The line between engkanto and diwata's pretty blurry. Plus, I'd love a story with any of the Maria Makiling/Arayat in it!

(I think the Kambal see Trese as an ate of sorts, they look up to her and the way they call her "Boss" is just so endearing huhu ;_;;) (HAHA! Juan with Trese, I never! But Trese would definitely check him out, Juan's supernatural in his own way. Lol I think I requested a fic from a friend once, of an aswang hunter Maria and the bumbling FBI agent Alfred who is a scaredy-cat. It never saw the light of day XDD)

wow it turned out longer than expected, I should sleepppp

Damn. Why do you have Trese?! We read Trese I last quarter for our periodical exam in Literature. I really, really love it! <3 I got terrified with the tiyanak. They never fail to scare me out.

I want to buy Trese, but I don't have money. ;.;

I also want to read Mythology Class again, except for some mushy parts there.

Your Lit teacher is now the best teacher for having Trese in his/her syllabus! How awesome is that?! And tiyanak... They are creepy little buggers /shiver

Aw, that's too bad! But I think Volume 1 is available online in the Trese website :D You should go check it out! And they have other stuff like real fiction/ short stories starring Trese, at the Diabolical!

Ooh, Mythology Class. Now that's one I haven't read yet!

The only book that I haven't read yet is book 4! Man, I wanna read it.

IMythology Class is cool. You won't find it in stores though. Our teacher said that the publishing company stopped printing (?) the book for some yeah.

I got to read Mythology Class because we have a copy of it in the library.
